Kanda Poha or Onion Poha || How to Make Mumbai road side Kanda Poha..
Kanda Poha or Onion Poha is a Popular Maharashtrian Breakfast or a
Tea time snack.
Its light and healthy because it can be made with less oil so less
calories. If You want to eat light in morning time it’s a good option.
Poha is Flattened rice tossed with the traditional Tempering of
mustard seeds,chillies ,curry leaves and lots of chopped onions (Kanda).
My Mom used to make poha for breakfasts many times as its my dad’s
Fav Breakfast option with lots of namkeen(spicy Sev).
There are lots and lots of recipes for poha every one have a
different version in there family.
so this is my version of poha same as we can find in mumbai road
side.
Step
By Step Recipe For Kanda Poha :
-
Rinse the poha in clean running water in a strainer . make sure that you
do not rinse it too much or else it breaks and gets mushy. while rinsing, the
poha absorbs enough water and it becomes soft. the poha must become soft
but remain intact, whole and separate. if the poha does not become soft,
sprinkle few drops of water on the poha in the strainer till they get softened.
-Roast
the Peanuts in a Pan till they Become crunchy . Keep it aside.
-In
a Kadai Or Pan ,Add the Mustard Seeds/Rai to
Hot oil.When
they Splunter ,Add Cumin Seeds/Jeera.
-now
add the curry leaves, green chili and Now,add
the onions. saute the onions till they become translucent and soften.
-Add Salt , Turmeric/haldi ,Sugar and sauté it. Add
the Poha.
-
add roasted peanuts ,mix gently with the rest of the mixture. switch off the flame and cover
the pan tightly with a lid for the poha to get steamed for a few minutes.
Serve Hot with lemon wedges.
Recipe Of Poha :
INGREDIENTS :
· 1.5
cups poha - white beaten rice or flattened rice
· 1
large onion, finely chopped
· ¼
tsp turmeric powder
· 1
tsp mustard seeds
· 2
or 2.5 tbsp peanuts
· 10-12
curry leaves
· 1
green chilli,chopped
· 1
tsp sugar or as required
· 1
or 1.5 tbsp oil
· salt as
required
· Procedure
:
· rinse
the poha in water till they soften.
· they
should loose their crunchiness and when you break them between your finger.
· dry
roast the peanuts in a pan till they become crunchy
· heat
oil in the same pan.
· crackle
the mustard seeds first.
· then
add onions and saute them till they become translucent.
· add
curry leaves and green chilies.
· saute
for half a minute.
· now
add sugar, salt and turmeric powder to the poha and gently mix.
· add
the roasted peanuts and stir.
· add
the poha and stir.
· cover
and steam the poha for 2-3 minutes on a low flame.
· switch
off the fire and let the poha remain covered for 1-2 minutes.
· remove
the lid and sprinkle some lemon juice.
· give a gentle
stir and serve kanda poha or onion poha hot.
